Worth a visit are the wonderful Baroque castle gardens and the castle ensemble of Blankenburg. It is about a 15-minute drive from Wernigerode and is a wonderful destination from spring to autumn. The unique ensemble consisting of the small castle, the castle gardens and the large castle invites you to stroll and relax.
The castle complex of Blankenburg was first mentioned in documents in 1123. It was not until 1718 that the area was extended and the terraced garden with its princely garden house, today's Small Castle, was added. There is much to discover there and between the baroque garden structures with the fountains, sandstone figures and artfully cut hedges one can feel somewhat princely and moved back in time.
From the visitors' car park, you can first marvel at the small castle and the classic Baroque style of construction with the swinging forms and the lovely details. On the ground floor you can now find a modern tourist information desk, where visitors can get more information. Walking along the path through the castle gardens you reach the large castle, which towers on the Schlossberg hill. The courtyard and some other areas are freely accessible. Sightseeing tours of the interiors are possible in the company of a castle guide.
